About Mike MacDomhnaill
A
member of Glór na nGael,
www.glornangael.ie, all his adult life. Mac
Domhnaill seeks to promote Gaeilge,the Gaelic language,
within his community. He has a concern for the worldwide
threat to minority languages. He has no wish to see the
language used only by an elite.
The
Cumann of West Limerick Sinn Féin selected Mike Mac
Domhnaill to be a candidate in the Newcastle West Area
for the Limerick County Council Local Elections in June
2009.
Mike, a retired secondary
school maths teacher, believes that the area is not
served at present by only the Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael
parties. The issues such as the extension of a gas
pipeline into west Limerick, and to ensure improved
educational infrastructure. ‘The area needs a much
broader representation to reflect the views of the
electorate'.

Mike is secretary of
Great Southern Trail Ltd and he works to promote
tourism incentives in West Limerick. 'Potentially we
have some beautiful walking/cycling routes and
sustainable tourism can be based on the development of
these routes'.

Mike is a founding member
(1979) of
West Limerick Athletic Club, was
1st in the over 55 cross country in 2009.
He likes to grow indigenous
trees such as oaks and is grateful to the Organic
