TÓRRAMH NA bhFOCAL
|
I
Focail –
Mo ghrá go daingean thú –
pógtha ag beola,
screadta ó sheomra go seomra,
ráite san intinn:
ró-throm dúinn…
Focail,
ag crith le mothú, –
Mo ghrá go daingean –
fágtha ar an gcarn.
Aimsigh na hiomairí
as a d’fhás prátaí
a choinnigh beatha;
faigh an dúbholadh.
Ionsaigh na focail.
Mac is iníon imithe
i dtreo na loinge
a sheolfaidh ó Queenstown,
ag breith chucu féin an nua. |
II
Tréis na mblianta
filleann sliocht sleachta,
siúlann arís na druileanna,
seasann ar shuíomh an bhotháin,
ar an walkman cloiseann
na sean-amhráin,
deireann arís
Mo ghrá go daingean thú,
tugann uatha An Caoineadh –
sibhse a díbríodh ag an ocras –
agus mar a théann anonn san oíche
tosaíonn sibh ar amhrán,
ag fágaint ar leataobh an walkman. |

Mike Mac Domhnaill is the
real thing. In “Mac Baintrí/ Widow’s Son” he journeys
through the lean years, through political upheaval,
through the dark within in poems and versions that
inevitably recover Christ in the sheer joy of existence.
Here the splendour of being and the awfulness of being
are mediated to us at times tenderly, at times angrily,
all the time articulating the poet and his people.
Michael Hartnett would be proud of him. Gabriel
Fitzmaurice
Tá an-obair déanta anseo agus saothar thar cionn
cumtha agus curtha i dtoll a chéile ann. Tá sé an-dea-scríofa
ó chlúdach go clúdach agus, cibé acu i nGaeilge nó i
mBéarla atá siad scríofa, seasann na dánta leo féin
mar fhilíocht den chéad scoth, gan lorg an
aistriúcháin le sonrú ar cheachtar leagan. Aodh Ó
